Novak Djokovic Bows Out of Monte Carlo Masters after Shock Loss

23-time major champion Novak Djokovic has been knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco following a comprehensive straight sets defeat to Alejandro Tabilo in a Round of 32 match on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old Serbian made 29 unforced errors compared to his 18 winners as he lost 6-3, 6-4 to his Chilean opponent, making it the second time in 11 months that Djokovic will lose to Tabilo, after their meeting at the Italian Open last year. 

Elsewhere, four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz rallied from a set down to beat Francisco Cerundolo 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, Norwegian fourth seed Casper Ruud accounted for Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-1 while Russian seventh seed Andrey Rublev overcame Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-4, 7-6.

Other results saw Australian eighth seed Alex de Minaur come from behind to defeat Czech Tomas Machac in three sets, while Russian ninth seed Daniil Medvedev also beat Frenchman Alexandre Muller in three sets.
