Players of Nottingham Forest have shown their support for Taiwo Awoniyi after the Nigeria striker underwent surgery for an abdominal injury picked up in the closing stages of Forest’s 2-2 draw at Leicester City a week ago.

Awoniyi, on for Chris Wood, was going for a ball along with a Leicester City defender when he ended up crashing into the post, with Forest medical team attending to him before passing him fit enough to finish the game.

But the Nigeria international was in great discomfort and was revaluated after the match before being taken to a hospital to undergo surgery.

The players rallied from the disappointing game against Leicester City to carve out a 2-1 win at West Ham United on Saturday, with Morgan Gibbs-White holding up a shirt with Awoniyi’s name on the back after scoring one of the goals.
