Reigning world champion Noah Lyles settled for second place in Heat 3 of the men’s 100m event at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris.
The American finished his Heat with a time of 10.04 seconds flat, 0.06 seconds behind winner Louie Hinchliffe of Team Great Britain who clocked 9.98 seconds.
Both men qualified for the semi-final alongside South Africa’s Shaun Maswanganyi who was on course to finish in second place before Lyles caught up at the line and send him down to third place.
Lyles will compete in Heat 1 of the semi-final next week in a field also comprising compatriot Kenneth Bednarek, Nigeria’s Favour Ashe and Akani Simbine of South Africa.
