Former Bayern Munich head coach, Niko Kovac, is reportedly the favourite to become the new man in charge of Borussia Dortmund following the sacking of Nuri Sahin.

The Bundesliga outfit are currently in the market for a new head coach after parting ways with Sahin, with German publication Bild reporting that Kovac is the favorite for the job on an interim basis and could be considered permanently if he performs well.

Ruhr Nachrichten report that Kovac rejected a first offer to become head coach on an interim basis, prompting Dortmund executives, Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl to fly out to Salzburg to meet with the Croat.

Meanwhile, further reports state that ex-United boss Erik ten Hag is not being considered right now (though he remains popular and is on the shortlist for a potential summer hire) while Roger Schmidt is another candidate who is being considered.

However, Schmidt is not willing to come in halfway through the season and has concerns about the leadership structure at Dortmund.

Niko Kovac most recently spent time at VfL Wolfsburg, having previously managed the Croatian national team, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich and AS Monaco.
