The National Sports Commission (NSC) pledged $5,000 to Nigeria’s U-19 Women’s cricket team as a form of support for their campaign at the ongoing U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens made history with a win over New Zealand in the group stage of the competition, qualifying for the Super Six stage of the tournament to be in the running for a semi-final spot.

NSC’s Director-General, Bukola Olopade, commended the tam’s efforts when visiting them at their camp, adding that it is the Commission’s commitment to fulfill all promises made to the team before and during the tournament.

In addition to the $5,000, Olopade contributed $1,000 to the team captain, Piety Lucky, in response to an earlier request by Lucky for the purchase of a laptop.

Nigeria will face Ireland on Wednesday in their final Super Six game, needing a win and other results to go their way, in order to join South Africa in the last four.
