The Flamingos of Nigeria are through to the final qualifying round foe the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following a 2-0 win over South Africa at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday afternoon.
Harmony Chidi put the Nigerians ahead, meeting a free-kick from the right flank with a header from close range after 37 minutes. The South Africans had the ball in the net just a minute later only for the goal to be cancelled for offside.
Aishat Animashaun doubled the Flamiingos lead after 56 minutes when she sent a first-time ball from the edge of the box looping over the South Africa goalkeeper.
Nigeria came close to a third goal in the 68th minute as a loose ball was met by Shakirat Moshood with a powerful long-range volley which came crashing off the South Africa crossbar, with the Flamingos seeing off proceedings to complete a 5-1 aggregate win.
