Reigning Copa Del Rey holders Athletic Bilbao have been sent packing from the competition at the last 16 stage following a 3-2 upset at the hands of Osasuna.
Aimar Oroz put Osasuna ahead five minutes before half-time while Ante Budimir doubled the visitors’ advantage a minute to the break with a penalty.
Nico Williams, sought by top clubs in Europe, pulled one back for Athletic three minutes into first-half stoppage time, with Oscar de Marcos restoring parity 10 minutes into the second half.
All that would prove to be a futile effort as Budimir scored his second of the game for the visitors to win the match for the visitors and send Ernesto Valverde’s men out of the competition.
Elsewhere, Athletic’s Basque rivals and last season’s semi-finalists, Real Sociedad, booked a spot in the last eight after a 3-1 home win against Rayo Vallecano.
Draws for the quarter-finals will take place January 20th and will also feature Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Leganes and Getafe.
