A tense and keenly contested Game 5 of the WNBA Finals saw New York Liberty emerge as champions for the first time in the franchise’s history thanks to a 67-62 win over Minnesota Lynx after overtime at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.

Such was the physical nature of the match that Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu did not get a bucket from the field until the fourth quarter, with Finals MVP Jonquel Jones leading the scoring with 17 points while Breanna Stewart, Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally scored 13 points each.

Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride combined for 43 points as they looked to push the Lynx to the title on enemy territory, but fell just short at the end of a close match which you can check out the highlights here.
