Chelsea surged back into the UEFA Champions League places as Pedro Neto and Christopher Nkunku starred in a dominant 4-0 victory over visiting Southampton in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The Blues have been off-colour in recent games and went into this fixture looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa – a game the Blues led at Villa Park before falling to a Marco Asensio double last time out.

And France forward Christopher Nkunku got the Blues up and running on Tuesday night when he opened the scoring after bundling the ball home from a Tosin Adarabioyo header in the 24th minute.

The former RB Leipzig hitman then turned provider 12 minutes later, slipping a neat pass to Pedro Neto who fired a powerful left-foot shot past Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

It was soon three for the Blues through an unlikely source as defender Levi Colwill found the back of the net a minute before half-time; Neto going from scorer to provider this time.

Enzo Maresca’s side never looked back after the break as they piled on the pressure and were rewarded 12 minutes from time when left-back Marc Cucurella added the fourth goal, after being set up by academy graduate and substitute, Tyrique George.

The result saw the Blues leapfrog Manchester City into fourth position on the log on 46 points, though the Cityzens have a date with North London outfit Tottenham Hotspurs.

Elsewhere in the Premier League on Tuesday night, Ismaila Sarr celebrated his birthday with a brace as Crystal Palace claimed a 4-1 win over Aston Villa, while Fulham and Brighton edged Wolves and Bournemouth 2-1 at Molineux and the AMEX respectively.
