Oddie Van Aanholt and Annette Duetz made history for the Natherlands as they won the first ever gold medal for the country in the women’s sailing skiff competition at Paris 2024.
World champions Van Aanholt and Duetz recovered from a blunder late in the race which almost cost them lose top spot – the 11th hour error saw them miscalculate where the finish line’s location.
This mistake let Rebecca Netzler and Vilma Bobeck to almost snatch the win. A long pause for proper clarification was taken by the officials, with the Dutch pair eventually confirmed as winners.
Meanwhile, the French duo of Charline Picon and Sarah Stayaert recovered from their bad start to secure bronze and complete the podium.
