National Sports Festival: Ogun Swimmers Shine as Otunla Breaks 100m Backstroke Record

Two swimmers representing Ogun State have won gold medals at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, with Kolade Otunla setting a new record in the men’s 100m backstroke.

Otunla finished the race in a time of 1:02.41 seconds, breaking the previous record of 1:04.61s set in 2018 by Abara Kuma Dilo of Rivers State.

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation announced after the event that Otunla’s record awaits official ratification from the governing body.

Meanwhile, Tobiloba Akinsanmi also won gold in the women’s 800m freestyle to become the first athlete to win a swimming gold medal at the festival for the host state. They both earned a cash prize of N2.5m incentive scheme announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
