A clash between two of Serie A’s top three teams has seen Napoli emerge victorious from a thriller, thanks to a late goal from Romelu Lukaku at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Saturday.

League top scorer Mateo Retegui put Atalanta ahead after 18 minutes of their quest to close the gap on the league leaders, who responded with goals from Matteo Politano and Scott McTominay to go ahead at the end of the first half.

Ademola Lookman kept his composure amidst a handful of Napoli defenders to fire Atalanta back on level terms 10 minutes into the second half.

But Lukaku ensured it was Antonio Conte’s team that got the last laugh, scoring the winner with 12 minutes left to earn Napoli a crucial win in the title race.

The result puts Napoli on 50 points from 21 matches, six points clear of Inter Milan – with two games in hand – and a further point clear of third-placed Atalanta.
