Naija Ballers Roundup: Calvin Bassey Celebrates Milestone as Ola Aina Saves Forest

It was a good weekend for Nigerian footballers abroad on individual notes although some of the players would definitely have preferred a better outcome for their respective clubs.

Calvin Bassey

One player who did enjoy a happy ending is Bassey, who made his 50th appearance in the Premier League and kept a clean sheet as Fulham overcame a resilient Leicester City side 2-0 at the King Power on Saturday.

Compatriot, Alex Iwobi put in a solid shift in the same encounter although he was taken off at half-time by Marco Silva in a tactical switch which paid off for the Cottagers in the second half.

Rasheedat Ajibade

The Super Falcons star found the bottom corner to put Atletico Madrid Femenino ahead in the Spanish top-flight match against Levante Badalona, which ended 1-1 to leave Atleti in third with 29 points.

Paul Onuachu

The tall Southampton striker scored his first Premier League goal in the first minute of stoppage time as the Saints, rock bottom in the league standings, fought to get a point at Nottingham Forest, but his goal proved to be a mere consolation eventually.

Ola Aina

That’s because of Onuachu’s Super Eagles mate, Ola Aina, who got an assist and made a goal-line clearance in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Nottingham Forest held on for a 3-2 win over Southampton to stay third in the Premier League.

Taiwo Awoniyi featured for seven minutes for Forest after coming on for Chris Wood in the closing stages of the match.

Ademola Lookman

Reigning African Men’s Player of the Year scored a great solo effort which saw him skillfully lose his marker before driving the ball into the Napoli box and sending a low shot into the bottom corner despite being surrounded by opposing defenders.

Sadly for Lookman, Napoli would go on to score the winner in a thrilling Serie A encounter to remain top of the league and leave Atalanta trailing by seven points in third place.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

Came off the bench at half-time with the score still goalless and put in a solid shift on Sunday as Fenerbahce ended the match at Adana Demirspor 4-0 winners, a result that allows Jose Mourinho’s second-placed side go within six points of Super Lig leaders, Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen

The Galatasaray striker was on target from the spot with his 11th league goal of the season in a 1-1 draw at Hatayspor on Friday night, as it continues to look like he will remain at the Turkish giants until the end of the season when his loan from Napoli ends.
