Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala could be out for the 2025-26 season before it even starts after suffering a horror injury during the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday.
Musiala, making his first start for Bayern in three months, was going for the ball against PSG’s full-back Nuno Mendes and goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma, with the Germany international’s leg getting caught under the PSG keeper’s body.
Bayern’s medical team rushed on to the pitch as Donnarumma, visibly shaken, dropped to the ground with his hands on his head in disbelief at the severity of the injury. Players from both teams formed a circle around Musiala who was carried off the field on a stretcher.
Referee Anthony Taylor brought the first half to an early conclusion after the incident with the scores level at 0-0. He was replaced by Serge Gnabry and it remains to be seen how long 22-year-old Musiala will be on the sidelines to recover from the injury which affected his ankle and left it in an unnatural position.
