Michael Owen Slams Three Manchester United Stars After Tottenham Hotspur Defeat

Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has slammed a handful of the Red Devils’ players following the 1-0 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

James Maddison’s 13th minute strike secured all three points for the Lilywhites, with United’s defenders too slow to react as Maddison tapped home the rebound after Andre Onana saved Lucas Bergvall’s effort.

United boss, Ruben Amorim, has had to contend with an injury-ravaged squad but was able to field an experienced back three of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

However, Michael Owen has criticised Manchester United’s centre-backs, claiming they “do nothing during the game.”

“We’ve seen so many clips in the first half when there’s nobody to pick up, there’s three of them literally doing nothing. They won’t push in, they won’t go and mark anybody, they just sit there,” he said.

Owen added, “What frustrates me more than anything about the Manchester United team is that those centre-halves do nothing during the game.”

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, the former player now a pundit also stated, “They hardly pick up any players at all, yet when you ask them to do one job – stop the guy who’s shooting – they’re sleeping at that as well.”

The loss to Spurs saw Man. United record their eighth Premier League defeat under Ruben Amorim, and have now dropped to 15th in the Premier League table with 29 points.
