United States head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has reacted to speculation linking him with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, six years after he parted ways with the Premier League club.

Pochettino previously guided Spurs to the Champions League final in May 2019, before leaving months later in November for spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

The Argentine tactician was appointed USA coach in October 2024 and is preparing the red and stripes for the Gold Cup, in view of the 2026 FIFA World Cup which they are cohosting with Mexico and Canada.

“Today it’s not realistic,” Pochettino said after the United States lost 2-1 to Turkey in a friendly match. “Look where I am. Look where we (his backroom staff) are. The answer is so clear. I think, since I left in 2019, my name has always been on the list [of rumours].”

The 53-year-old added, “I’ve seen the rumours, we are 100 coaches on the list. Don’t be worried about that. If something happens [in the future], you for sure will see, but I am so happy in this moment and we cannot talk about this type of thing.”

Pochettino’s comments paves the way for Brentford manager Thomas Frank as a leading contender to replace Postecoglou, while Spurs also have interest in Fulham coach, Marco Silva. Another manager who has ruled himself out of the Spurs role is Roberto De Zerbi.
