Controversy erupted in the Turkish Super Lig as the match between league leaders Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor has been abandoned after players of Adana protested the decision to award Galatasaray a penalty.

Galatasaray were leading 1-0 at the time after Alvaro Morata scored from the spot in the 12th minute on his league debut for Galatasaray after joining on loan from AC Milan.

Moments later, Adana Demirspor coach Mustafa Alper Avci beckoned on his players to the sidelines, followed by the entire team walking off the field.

It was later announced that the match had been abandoned, with Adana Demirspor vice-president Metin Korkmaz stating that the team’s protest was directed at the match referee. The club president, Murat Sancak, later confirmed the walk-off was directed at the referee, not Galatasaray.
