Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has slammed the decision not to send off Manchester United defender, Lisandro Martinez, for his foul on Cole Palmer during the Premier League clash between both clubs at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Martinez was given a yellow card for his challenge on Palmer in the closing minutes of the draw, with the defender’s studs making contact with Palmer who had just flicked the ball over the Argentine before being taken down.
Maresca noted that Palmer would undergo further evaluation, and while he is optimistic that there is no serious injury, he firmly believed that Martinez should have been dismissed.
“He was in the changing room with ice. We are waiting now. Hopefully it is nothing,” Maresca stated. He went on to address the referee’s decision, saying, “They showed me before the press conference and it’s quite clear, but the referee took a different decision. It was not the intention to go for the ball. He goes for the legs. There is no doubt about the decision. I think it is quite clearly a red.”
What do you think the referee’s decision should’ve been? Yellow or red?
