Fans of Manchester United have reason to look forward to a good start in the 2025-26 season despite finding out their Red Devils will be hosting Arsenal at Old Trafford when the Premier League returns in mid-August.
The Red Devils endured a torrid 2024-25 season, finishing 15th on the league table and getting just one point in the two meetings against the Gunners. Ruben Amorim’s United did beat Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup, before crashing out on penalties to Fulham.
Amorim is aiming to make a number of signings as he works towards improving United’s fortunes, and starting at home is a good omen, going by the stats. That’s because United have the best points-per-game record of any team who have played more than one Matchweek 1 fixture.
The Red Devils have won the most opening-day matches, with 22 wins and have lost only seven MW1 fixtures. While two of those defeats have come in the last five seasons, they kicked off the 2024-25 season with a 1-0 home victory over another London club, Fulham.
Elsewhere, United’s first game against a newly-promoted side comes against Burnley at the end of August. That’s followed by the international break, from which a derby date against City at the Etihad Stadium and a home clash against Chelsea await in mid-September.
A trip to Anfield to face arch-rivals and champions, Liverpool, comes in mid-October, while the Christmas and New Year’s schedule will see the Red Devils face the likes of Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and newly-promoted Leeds and Burnley.
For now, check out United’s fixture schedule for the 2025-26 league season.
