Fans of Manchester United will be hoping the new manager bounce continues when Chelsea show up at Old Trafford for a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday.
A loss for Arsenal and Manchester City has opened a chance for Chelsea to go above the Gunners and move within three points of City should they win at the Red Devils, who can edge closer to the top half with a win over the Blues.
Ruud van Nistelrooy guided the home side into the Carabao Cup last eight with a 5-2 win over Leicester City, and he is expected to remain in charge for the interim until the international break starts November 11.
The Dutchman, appointed interim manager after the club and Erik Ten Hag parted ways on Monday, will hope to give United a third straight win over Chelsea in the league at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Possible Line-ups
Manchester United XI: Andre Onana – Diogo Dalot, Johnny Evans, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez – Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro – Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho – Rasmus Hojlund.
Chelsea XI: Robert Sanchez – Reece James, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Malo Gusto – Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia – Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto – Nicolas Jackson.
Head-to-head
Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 11 home meetings against Chelsea, and will be looking to get three successive home wins in the league over the Blues for the first time since 1957.
But the Red Devils will be wary of the visitors, and Cole Palmer, after the English forward scored twice in stoppage time to give Chelsea a 4-3 win the last time these two teams met at Stamford Bridge back in April.
Prediction
Both teams enjoyed different fortunes in midweek, with United bossing the park against the Foxes while Chelsea got overpowered by Newcastle albeit it was a second string side Enzo Maresca put out at St. James Park.
It is expected that United will edge this one, as the mood in the dressing room has improved while the club now focuses on moving up the Premier League table.
