Scottish Premiership side Rangers, where Super Eagles man Cyriel Dessers plies his trade, could be set to solve their defensive crisis as reports link Manchester United veteran Jonny Evans to the Ibrox outfit.

Philippe Clement’s side have been left in a defensive crisis this January, with several first team players on the treatment table – James Tavernier and John Souttar being the latest to be sidelined.

The duo joins the likes of Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Leon Balogun and Dujon Sterling, who have also picked up knocks and are currently unavailable for the Gers.

While a new centre-back is a priority this month, rumours have it that a board member has already suggested the 37-year-old as an option for Clement.

The 107-cap Northern Ireland international has only featured 12 times for the Red Devils this campaign, but he was a key player last season, making 30 appearances in total.

Evans could add the much-needed experience to the squad and provide a short-term solution should Rangers sanction a move.
