Scotland and Manchester United legend, Denis Law, has passed away aged 84 years. Law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia back in 2021.
The former striker made 404 appearances for the Red Devils scoring 237 goals to rank as the club’s third highest scorer of all time behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton.
A statement from his family following his demise reads: “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.
“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.
“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”
Law joined United from Torino in 1962 and won the Ballon d’Or (then awarded to the best player in Europe) in 1964, making him the first and still the only Scotsman to win the award.
He won the European Cup with the Red Devils in 1968 and added two league titles and one FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
