Kevin De Bruyne made an instant impact off the bench as Manchester City came from a goal down to defeat Leyton Orient 2-1 at Brisbane Road to reach the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.
City dominated proceedings but were made to suffer in the first half, losing new midfielder Nico Gonzalez to injury and conceding a freak goal to add salt to injury.
Orient went in front after only 16 minutes when Jamie Donley ran onto a loose ball near the half-way line, spotted City keeper Stefan Ortega off his line and launched a flat, long-range chip towards goal.
Donley’s ball hit the underside of City’s crossbar, but bounced into the net off Ortega who was rushing back to goal only to end up red-faced by conceding an own goal.
City finally found a way back into the game just before the hour mark, Abdulkodir Khusanov hitting a rebound home after Rico Lewis’ shot was kept from goal.
Pep Guardiola made a double substitution in the 72nd minute ,bringing on Phil Foden for his 300th City appearance along with De Bruyne, who proved to be the match-winner.
The Belgian midfielder ran onto a Jack Grealish ball forward and beat the Orient keeper to the ball, dinking an effort over his opponent to score just seven minutes after coming off the bench for the winner.
Elsewhere iin the FA Cup, Femi Azeez scored two goals while Liam Roberts saved a penalty as Millwall claimed a 2-0 win over Leeds United to join the Manchester clubs in the fifth round.
