Manchester City Show Character to Overcome Chelsea in Premier League

An efficient second-half display steered Manchester City to come from a goal down and claim a 3-1 win over Chelsea in a Premier League match at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

The visitors opened scoring after only three minutes as Nicolas Jackson took advantage of a poor back pass from debutant, Abdukodir Khusanov, to set up Noni Madueke for an easy goal.

Another City debutant, Omar Marmoush, thought he had equalised midway through the first half, only for his joy to be short-lived as his goal was chalked off for offside in the build-up to it.

But Pep Guardiola’s men were not to be denied a breakthrough before half-time, with Josko Gvardiol first to the rebound for the equaliser three minutes before the break after Chelsea keeper, Robert Sanchez’s save from a Matheus Nunes shot.

Chelsea kept City at bay for half of the second period before Erling Haaland ran on to Ederson’s long ball out to put the home side ahead with a lob over Sanchez from 18 yards.

Phil Foden then sealed the win for City three minutes to the end, as the England international ran on to Haaland’s poked pass forward and found the back of the net.

The result sends City back into the top four with 41 points, ahead of Newcastle United on goal difference, while Chelsea is a point behind in sixth on the Premier League table.
