Manchester City Miss Chance to Enter Top Four after Dull Derby Draw at Old Trafford

Outgoing Premier League holders Manchester City missed the chance to move into the top four after playing out an uninspiring goalless draw with Manchester United in the Manchester 196th derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The build-up to the clash was headlined by City captain Kevin de Bruyne, who confirmed his decision to leave the Cityzens when his contract expires in the summer.

De Bruyne also made his 22nd appearance in the Manchester derby, although there was little the Belgium international could do to effect a change in the final outcome.

City started the game brighter and threatened with two chances that fell for Omar Marmoush, but the Egypt forward could not beat United goalkeeper Andre Onana both occasions.

United fashioned out a few half chances of theirs, with the closest being substitute Joshua Zirkzee – who turned a Patrick Dorgu cross goalwards but Ederson was able to push the Dutchman’s effort to safety.

The draw keeps United in the lower half of the table while City remain in fifth place but are being chased by Newcastle United who are two points behind them with two games in hand.
