Reigning UEFA Champions League holders, Real Madrid, will take on 2023 winners Manchester City in a blockbuster play-off encounter, after the draws for the competition’s knockout rounds were conducted in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.
Both teams had ended the league phase outside the top eight, missing out of automatic qualification to the last 16 and settling for the playoff positions instead, and will now battle each other over two legs next month for a place in the Round-of-16.
Elsewhere, Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, will be on the road when they face Scottish Premiership side, Celtic, in the first leg, while Italian Serie A powerhouse, Juventus, will welcome Dutch Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven in Turin for the first leg of their play-off match.
Debutants Stade Brestois will be involved in an all-French encounter against Paris Saint-Germain, while another Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco, will play host to Portuguese Primeira Liga heavyweights, Benfica, for a place in the knock-out phase.
Other fixtures will see Belgium’s Club Brugge take on Atalanta, Portugal’s Sporting CP will trade tackles with Borussia Dortmund, and Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord have been pitted against seven-time champions, AC Milan.
The two-legged ties will be played during February, with the first leg taking place on February 11th and 12th while the second leg comes a week later.
Draws for the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals will be made on February 21st, after the conclusion of the play-off round.
