A thrilling Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium between Manchester City and Brighton has ended 2-2 on Saturday afternoon, though Pep Guardiola’s side can count themselves lucky as the Seagulls missed a glorious late chance to grab all three points.

Kaoru Mitoma had the ball in the net for Brighton in the early stages of the match but the goal was cancelled after the Japanese forward was adjudged to have fouled City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

It was not long after that Erling Haaland opened the scoring for City from the penalty spot after Omar Marmoush was fouled in the Brighton area, with the Egyptian restoring the home side’s lead minutes before the half-time break.

Pervis Estupinan had scored in the first half with a well-struck free-kick, while an own goal by Abdukodir Khusanov early in the second half brought the Seagulls back on level terms again.

Carlos Baleba had the chance to win it for Brighton in the 82nd minute with just the City goalkeeper to beat in a fast break by the visitors, only for him to blaze the ball over from close range, much to City’s relief.

A win would’ve taken Brighton above City into fifth place, but with the spoils shared, City remain fifth with 48 points, a point ahead of Brighton who remain in seventh spot behind Newcastle United on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are now five points clear of Chelsea in third place and a point behind second-placed Arsenal after coming away from Ipswich Town with a decisive 4-2 win.

Three goals in seven minutes saw the visitors take control of the match at Portman Road, with Nikola Milenkovic finding the breakthrough before a quick double from Anthony Elanga put Forest 3-0 up at the break.

Jens Cajuste pulled a goal back for the Tractor Boys in the 82nd minute with a curling effort into the top corner, but substitute, Jota Silva, met Morgan Gibbs-White ball to calmly place under Palmer and seal the win for Forest.

There was still time for George Hirst to pull another goal back for Ipswich in the third minute of stoppage time, but Forest were never in danger of leaving Portman Road with the win while Ipswich fall nine points away from safety as a result.
