The New Year is up and running, with a handful of matches already played over the last few days. In this piece, we take a look at some of the biggest football events set to give fans premium entertainment in 2025.
CAF Africa Cup of Nations
The Premier competition on the African continent will take place in December, due to the FIFA Club World Cup taking place in the summer. 24 Nations will take part in the latest edition billed to be hosted by Morocco.
CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
The women’s equivalent will also be played in Morocco in July. It will feature a total of 12 countries who will be aiming to dethrone defending champions South Africa.
UEFA Women’s Euros
The latest edition of the UEFA Women’s European Championship will be staged in Switzerland in the summer. The tournament will feature 16 nations who will be looking to win the top prize on offer. England’s Lionesses are the reigning holders.
FIFA Club World Cup
This competition will be contested for in a new format for the first time. A total of 32 teams from around the six confederations will converge in Miami over the summer to battle for the trophy and the right to become Champions of the World at Club level.
UEFA Nations League
Unlike previous editions, the Nations League will continue from the quarter-final stages. Winners would then go on to contest the semi-finals and the Final to determine the winner. Spain are the current champions of the biennial showpiece.
UEFA Club Competitions
In customary manner, the already-begun editions of the Champions League, Europa League and the Conference League will reach their conclusions later in the year, with the Finals set to be played in the month of May.
FIFA World Cup Qualifying Series
The Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup will commence in the month of March across the globe, as teams aim to secure a berth at the 48-nation tournament set to hold in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
