Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly planning a return to his native Belgium and play for Anderlecht after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old has never hidden his intentions to return to the club where he began his career and played for between 2009 and 2011.

Lukaku has hinted to his entourage that the ideal time to return to Anderlecht would be after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, according to Het Nieuwsblad and DH Les Sports.

The newspaper insists that Anderlecht “have not been officially informed, but Lukaku has made it known in his entourage that the summer of 2026 would be the ideal time.”

Belgium’s all-time top scorer recently said in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “That will happen sooner than you think. And in the best possible way. Not when I’m a worn-out player. I promised my son, I told him I would come back.”
