Ademola Lookman marked his return to Atalanta in grand style, presenting the Men’s Player of the Year prize from the CAF Awards to the crowd in Bergamo before scoring a goal as the club regained top spot in Serie A.
Lookman scored the second goal to put Atalanta 2-1 up while Charles De Ketelaere scored twice as Gian Piero Gasperini’s men secured a 3-2 win over a resilient Empoli side on Sunday.
The result gives Atalanta their 11th consecutive win in the league on 40 points, two points clear of Napoli that won 2-1 at Genoa.
Lazio now occupies fourth spot, level on 34 points with third-placed Inter Milan, following a last-gasp 2-1 win at Lecce.
Next up for Atalanta in Serie A is a trip to the capital for a showdown against Lazio.
