Liverpool are champions of England for the 20th time, coming from a goal down to wallop Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday to claim the Premier League crown with four matches to spare.

The Reds came into the fixture needing just a point to seal the 2024/2025 Premier League title, but went one better and gave the Kop a day to remember and deliver a second league crown in five years.

Arne Slot’s men needed to brush off an early scare, though, as the script initially appeared to have contours when Dominic Solanke headed Spurs in front after 12 minutes of the game.

The tide would flip quickly as Luis Diaz beat the offside trap to restore parity for Liverpool four minutes later, before further strikes from Alexis Mac Allister (24th minute) and Cody Gakpo (34th minute) gave the Reds a healthy lead going into the interval.

Liverpool had to wait till the 63rd minute of the match to make it 4-1 through Mohamed Salah, with the goal making the Egyptian ace the fifth all-time Premier League top scorer with 185 goals.

The result was then put beyond doubt when Spurs full-back Destiny Udogie scored an own goal as Liverpool ran riot at Merseyside, which erupted in celebrations at the referee’s final whistle.

Victory sees Arne Slot become only the fifth manager to win the English top-flight title in his first season at the club, after Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, and Antonio Conte. Slot is also the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League title.

Liverpool will have to wait until the final game of the season – at home to Crystal Palace on May 25th – to be presented with the Premier League trophy.
