A former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest star, Stan Collymore, has warned Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen against joining Premier League giants Chelsea this summer.
The Nigerian international is one of the strikers linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge, and Enzo Maresca is searching for a new centre forward.
Chelsea held talks with Napoli over the possibility of signing the Nigerian striker on loan this summer, but the player’s agent denied claims of his client leaving the Serie A on loan.
Now in an interview with Caughtoffside, the Liverpool legend shared his thoughts on big players coming to the Premier League and what is expected of them.
“That player, whoever it was, got talked about way beyond whether they were good, bad or indifferent on the pitch. It was always that the record signing would be expected to make the difference, which I always thought was very unfair,” the former Liverpool forward said.
He continued, “The big-name signing that won’t just entertain us but will also become the poster boy of both his club and the entire Premier League.”
Collymore, who featured for Liverpool between 1995 and 1997, believes the pressure will be too much for Osimhen if he joins the Blues this summer, as he would be expected to deliver instantly.
“That could well be the case for Victor Osimhen if his rumoured move to Chelsea comes off because the mind-boggling numbers then put unfair pressure and expectation on him,” he added.
