Liverpool Go 13 Points Clear of Arsenal After Easing Past Newcastle United

A goal in each half by Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, with Mo Salah providing an assist for the second, have seen Liverpool overcome Newcastle United 2-0 in the Premier League and go 13 points clear of Arsenal as the title race leans towards Anfield.

Despite the absence of Arne Slot from the dugout as he serves a two-match touchline ban for improper conduct at the end of the Merseyside derby earlier in February, it was the same old rampant Reds that handled the Magpies to rack up another three points in the league.

Szoboszlai put the Reds ahead after 11 minutes, scoring in back-to-back games when he met Luiz Diaz ball with a tame but well-aimed shot that deflected off Dan Burn to leave Newcastle keeper Nick Pope without a chance at making a save.

The second goal was a summary of Liverpool’s swiftness in turning defense to attack. Mac Allister pounced on a loose ball off Sandro Tonali and found Mo Salah, who drew Newcastle defenders’ attention to him before laying off the ball for Mac Allister to fire a first-time effort past Pope.

Newcastle already went into the game handicapped by the absence of top scorer, Alexander Isak due to a groin issue, and any chances of mounting a fightback was never in sight as Liverpool held on for the win to take a step closer to a first title since 2020.
