Virgil van Dijk’s contract extension with Liverpool has been confirmed by the club on Thursday, just over a week after the Reds secured the signature of fellow star, Mohamed Salah, to make them the highest paid players at the club and among the top earners in the Premier League.
The defender has signed a two-year extension at Anfield, having hinted that a deal was close to being reached between him and the club following a 2-1 win over West Ham United – a match in which he scored a late winner.

Van Dijk’s new contract will see the Netherlands international earn up to £400,000 a week, almost double what he was earning in his previous contract, with the deal also including performance-related bonuses.
33-year-old Van Dijk has spent six-and-a-half years at Anfield since joining from Southampton in January 2018 for a reported record fee of £75 million, scoring the winning goal on his debut in the FA Cup third round match against Merseyside rivals, Everton.
He has since gone on to reach the Champions League final with Liverpool three times and winning once in 2019. Van Dijk has also won one Premier League title, along with one FA Cup, two League Cup titles, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
