Mo Salah scored a milestone goal while Cody Gakpo got two goals as Liverpool maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings with a statement 4-1 win against Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday.
The hosts went ahead inside 11 minutes when Dominik Szoboszlai received a pass from Ibrahima Konate and found himself in acres of space, before cutting inside Kalvin Phillips to find the bottom corner with a fine left-footed strike.
Egyptian forward, Salah, soon doubled the lead as he controlled Gakpo’s cross before firing an effort past Simon Walton at the near post to register his 19th Premier League goal of the campaign.
Salah’s goal took him to seventh outrightly in the all-time Premier League scorers’ list ahead of Thierry Henry, and was his 100th Premier League goal for Liverpool at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Gakpo then got his name on the scoresheet before half-time as he turned the ball home from close range after Walton had failed to keep hold of Szoboszlai’s effort.
The Dutchman put the game to bed just after the hour mark, as he headed home a brilliant cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold to grab his brace of the afternoon.
Alexander-Arnold twice came close to finding the back of the net but it was Jacob Greaves who scored what proved to be a consolation in the 90th minute.
Arne Slot’s men will now focus on their final UEFA Champions League fixture against Dutch Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven in midweek as they look to seal top spot there as well.
