McLaren’s Lando Norris has cut teammate Oscar Piastri’s lead on the driver standings after winning the Austrian GP in an eventful race on Sunday which saw world champion Max Verstappen suffer a blow as he crashed in Red Bull Racing’s home race.

Norris carried on his form from qualifying to claim victory in Austria and revive his bid for a first Formula 1 title, as he now sits 15 points behind Piastri after 11 races in the 2025 campaign. Just 2.695 seconds separated the McLarens, who celebrated their eighth win in 11 starts and fourth one-two of the season.

Charles Leclerc completed the podium for Ferrari – who moved up to second overall ahead of Red Bull – 17 seconds behind Norris while teammate Lewis Hamilton ended in fourth a further nine seconds behind the race winner.

Verstappen, hoping to stay within touching distance of the papaya duo in the championship, saw his race end in just the first lap after a collision with Mercedes’s Italian rookie Kimi Antonelli.

Red Bull’s star remains third in the driver standings but has fallen 61 points behind Piastri as hopes of a fifth successive world title continues fading away for the Dutchman.
