Goals either side of half-time by Michael Olise and Harry Kane has given Bayern Munich a 2-1 win over Celtic and a slight advantage heading into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out phase play-off next week.

A place in the Round of 16 is at stake for the 2020 champions and it took until the stroke of half-time before they were able to break the deadlock thanks to an outstanding goal by Olise.

Bayern picked up from where they left off as Kane doubled their advantage just four minutes into the second half with his 29th goal in all competitions this season and seventh in the Champions League.

Celtic ensured they will go into the return leg at the Allianz Arena next week with a sliver of hope thanks to Daizen Maeda’s headed goal 10 minutes from time, but Brendan Rodgers men must put up a solid display to get a result in Germany if they wish to reach the last 16.

Elsewhere, AC Milan were left frustrated at De Kuip following a 1-0 loss to Feyenoord courtesy of Igor Paixao’s third minute goal for the Eredivisie side, while another Serie A side, Atalanta fell 2-1 at Club Brugge following a 94th minute winner by Gustaf Nilsson for the Belgians.
