Six journalists kidnapped on their way to cover the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya in Uyo have been rescued by joint security forces in Anambra State.
The journalists were part of an 11-member team on their way from Lagos to cover the match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium when they were ambushed and abducted along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala LG in the early hours of October 10.
But in a statement by Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said, “Joint security forces have rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo.”
Ikenga also stated that efforts to rescue a seventh journalist from the crew remain ongoing, and updates about the incident will be communicated.
