Premier League leaders, Liverpool, had to fight from a goal down twice to secure a 2-2 draw with Fulham at Anfield on Saturday, despite playing with 10 men for much of the match.
Arne Slot’s Reds extended their unbeaten record against Fulham to seven games, but the encounter was filled with drama and a series of dramatic moments, including a first-half red card for Andrew Robertson.
Fulham took the lead after a run by Antonee Robinson down the left wing led to him finding Andreas Pereira at the back post, with the Brazilian’s shot deflecting off Robertson into the net for the opener after 12 minutes.
Just 10 minutes later, Liverpool’s woes worsened as Robertson was sent off for denying Harry Wilson a clear goalscoring opportunity.
But it would be the Reds to get the next goal after the break, as Mohamed Salah’s precise cross found Cody Gakpo to steer the ball in from the back post with a diving header for the equaliser.
Fulham regained the lead in the 65th minute through substitute Rodrigo Muniz, who slotted home a scuffed shot following a pull-back from Robinson. But Liverpool responded once again, as Diogo Jota turned sharply in the box and fired a low shot past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to make it 2-2.
Both teams pushed for a winner, with Virgil van Dijk playing as a makeshift forward, but Fulham came closest in the final moments. Adama Traoré tested Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson, who made a crucial save to ensure the game ended in a draw.
Liverpool go five points clear at the top although Chelsea can cut that lead down to two points if they beat Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
