Experienced Italian midfielder, Jorginho, has reached an agreement to end his contract at Arsenal, allowing him to seal a move to join Neymar in the Brazilian Serie A after signing a deal to join Santos’ rivals, Flamengo, on Friday.

“We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent,” Arsenal said in a statement on Friday. “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Jorgi for his contribution to the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future. This is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”

Before Arsenal, the Brazilian-born midfielder featured for Chelsea, Napoli and Hellas Verona, as well as making 57 appearances with the Italy national team. Jorginho was named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year in 2021 and finished third in the Ballon d’Or votes that year.

33-year-old Jorginho has now signed a three-year deal which will see him play at Flamengo until the summer of 2028, with the former Champions League winner now set to make his debut for the club at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup this month.

Jorginho has previously won the old iteration of the FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea in 2022. Flamengo will make their debut at the competition this year with a match against Esperance of Tunisia on June 16 in Philadelphia.
