Jack Draper Sets Up Casper Ruud Meeting In Madrid Open Final

British number one Jack Draper progressed into the Madrid Open final, after battling to a thrilling straight sets victory over Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti on Friday.

The 23-year-old, who is yet to drop a set at the tournament so far, fought his way to a 6-3, 7-6 triumph against Musetti to reach his third ATP Final of the year.

Draper will be targeting his second ATP title of the year, after beating Holger Rune at Indian Wells in March. He is the first Englishman to reach the Final of the Madrid Open and the second Briton after Scotland’s Andy Murray, who appeared in three finals and won two titles.

Draper will face Norwegian Casper Ruud in Sunday’s Final after the 14th seed edged Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets despite struggling with a rib injury.

The world number 15 required treatment three games into the opening set but still managed to save 15 of 18 break points faced to down Cerundolo 6-4, 7-5 to reach his 18th Final on clay.
