UFC star Israel Adesanya has jumped in the defence of Hollywood actor, Jonathan Majors, calling on the Marvel Studios to keep the embattled star as the face of fictional character, Kang, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Izzy, preparing to face Nassourdine Imavov in a UFC middleweight fight in Saudi Arabia this weekend, said Majors was only trying to protect himself, going on to state that the actor should also play Francis Ngannou in a biopic about the MMA fighter.

“Yes, all he did was protect himself. He should and he should also play [Francis Ngannou]
in his biopic!” Adesanya posted on social media in response to a question asking if Majors should be given a second chance to play Kang in the MCU.

Kang, also known as Kang the Conqueror, is a supervillain with the ability to travel through time among other powers in the MCU, with Majors first portraying Kang in the 2023 film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

35-year-old Majors looked set to become one of the next set of superstars to emerge from appearing in the MCU, more so after Quantumania, before a conviction in December 2023 on two counts of misdemeanor assault against Grace Jabbari sidelined his Hollywood career.

At the time, Jabbari claimed that Majors attacked her in the back of an SUV, leading to the actor’s conviction and subsequent order by the court to undertake a year-long counselling program but avoided jail.

Majors has denied any wrongdoing in his relations with Jabbari, but that did not stop Marvel Studios from distancing itself from the actor and throwing the future appearances of Kang in upcoming films in jeopardy.
