UFC 311 will have a new headline for fight night as reigning champion, Islam Makhachev, is now slated to face Renato Maicano on Saturday following the abrupt withdrawal of Arman Tsarukyan from the card.

35-year-old Maicano was already on the undercard at UFC 311 to face Beneil Dariush of the United States, but has now been moved to face the champion for the UFC lightweight title in California.

Meanwhile, Tsarukyan has withdrawn from UFC 311 main card due to ‘significant back pain’. “Around 1am [on Friday] we received a call that Tsarukyan was experiencing significant back pain, due to the injury he feels he is not healthy enough to compete,” UFC President, Dana White said.

White added, “Moicano has been on tear since moving up to 155lb and currently holds the longest active win streak among all [contenders] in the top 10 of the lightweight division.”

On his part, Maicano declared he will beat his 33-year-old opponent, who has won 14 consecutive fights and last lost a fight almost 10 years ago.

I am going to shock the world,” said the Brazilian. “I am so happy I got this opportunity for a long time. I knew this could happen, that’s why I was training five rounds. That’s why I was training with a southpaw. That’s why I am ready.”
