Super Eagles duo, Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu, both found the back of the net to help Premier League basement team, Southampton, to a crucial 2-1 win at Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday.
An error from Arijanet Muric allowed Aribo to put Southampton in front with a well-taken first-time shot in the 21st minute, but the hosts soon levelled through Liam Delap, who took Nathan Broadhead’s pass in his stride before slotting past Aaron Ramsdale.
The Saints survived a scare when Julio Enciso whipped a low free-kick into the side netting for the hosts soon after, and just when it looked like both sides would settle for a share of the spoils, the visitors struck.
Kamaldeen Sulemana made his way to the edge of the box before finding space for a low shot that was parried onto the path of Onuachu, who made no mistake to put his side back in front with two minutes left of the 90.
Southampton held on for the win which provides some relief for struggling the struggling Saints. Still, Ivan Juric’s side remain eight points away from safety, though a second league win of the season could spark the Saints to fight against the drop till the very end.
