Goals in each half from Liam Delap and former Chelsea player, Omari Hutchinson, saw Ipswich Town claim a 2-0 win over Enzo Maresca’s Blues in a Premier League match on Monday night.
The result marks the first time Ipswich have won a Premier League match at home since 2002, while Chelsea fall to back-to-back losses to end 2024 and miss the chance to go above Nottingham Forest and Arsenal on the Premier League table.
Two late goals had condemned the Blues to defeat at home to Fulham last time out. This time, the goals came early in each half as Ipswich did their relegation fight some good.
Former Manchester City striker, Liam Delap, opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 14 minutes, while Hutchinson doubled Ipswich’s advantage 10 minutes into the second half.
The result leaves Chelsea in fourth with 35 points after 19 games, 10 points behind Liverpool that have a game in hand. Ipswich on their part are now 18th, a point and a place above Leicester City in the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Tariq Lamptey’s late goal earned Brighton a point in a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, who came from a Simon Adingra goal down to lead 2-1 through goals from Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers before Lamptey struck for the Seagulls.
