George Ilenikhena was on target for AS Monaco in a six-goal thriller against Benfica in Lisbon while Alphonso Davies sparked all the emotions in stoppage time between Bayern Munich and Celtic at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
Ilenikhena scored with 10 minutes to go against Benfica to make it 3-2 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate, only for Orkun Kokcu to equalise for the Portuguese giants three minutes later to give the Eagles a 4-3 aggregate victory.
Benfica were joined by Bayern Munich courtesy of even later drama in Germany after Alphonso Davies scored with the last kick of the game to give the Bundesliga side a 3-2 aggregate win over Celtic.
Elsewhere, AC Milan levelled the aggregate score at home to Feyenoord with a goal by Santiago Gimenez – a former Feyenoord player – after only 40 seconds, but a straight red card for Theo Hernandez early in the second half followed by Julian Carranza’s equaliser gave the visitors a 2-1 aggregate win.
Milan were then joined in crashing out of the Champions League by fellow Italian side, Atalanta. Despite Gian Piero Gasperini’s men dominating play and having 11 shots on target, Club Brugge put up an efficient display to claim a 5-2 aggregate win and book a slot in the round of 16 draws coming up on Friday.
