Ikorodu City Continue Continental Chase as Bayelsa United Come to Town

Nigeria Premier Football League highflyers Ikorodu City will continue their pursuit for a historic continental slot for next season when they welcome Bayelsa United in their matchday 36 encounter in Lagos on Wednesday.

Ikorodu City are fresh from securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wikki Tourists in the quarter-finals of the President Federation Cup, which saw them progress into the last-four of Nigeria’s oldest club cup competition for the first time.

The Nurudeen Aweroro-coached team will surely be eyeing all three points on offer in the NPFL clash as they bid to strengthen their push for to play on the continent. Oga Boys are currently in a decent run of form heading into this match holding at Onikan Stadium.

In their last five matches, Ikorodu City boast a record of three wins, one draw and one defeat. They engineered victories over the likes of Niger Tornadoes, Beyond Limits FC and Wikki Tourists, with the draw coming against El Kanemi Warriors, while they lost 2-1 away to Akwa United in Uyo. 

When it comes to head-to-head meetings with Bayelsa United, both sides played each other in the reverse fixture on 8 December 2024, with the South-South outfit running away 1-0 winners on the day. 

As for Bayelsa United, their form coming into this fixture is equally as impressive. The coach Ladan Bosso-led side have two wins, two draws and a solitary defeat in their last five games.

A win for Ikorodu City will see them garner 56 points, level with Abia Warriors pending the result of their clash against Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
