Brown Ideye marked his CAF Confederation Cup debut for Enyimba with a goal as the People’s Elephant ended a winless streak of 10 games in all competitions with a 4-1 demolition of Black Bulls on Sunday.
The former Super Eagles man, making just his second appearance, showed composure to go around the visiting goalkeeper before slotting in from a tight angle minutes after coming off the bench.
Joseph Atule set the ball rolling for Enyimba with a sixth-minute goal while Ifeany Ihemekwele restored the Aba side’s lead a minute before half-time after Ifoni had levelled scores in the 12th minute.
Ideye got the third for Enyimba just after the hour mark before Atule scored his second of the game two minutes from time to seal a crucial win for Stanley Eguma’s men.
The result leaves Enyimba still bottom of their Confederation Cup group, but level on four points with Black Bulls and just a point behind Al Masry as the Egyptian side played out a goalless draw with local rivals, Zamalek, in the other group match on Sunday.
A win for Enyimba in their next match on the continent at home to Al Masry next Sunday will put the Nigerian side in contention for a spot in the knock-out stage of the competition.
