Carlos Yulo of the Philippines has won back-to-back gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the only Filipino in history to win two gold medals.
Yulo averaged 15.116 on the vault to claim victory on Sunday. Armenia’s Artur Davtyan took silver with an average of 14.966 while Harry Hepworth of Great Britain completed the podium to win bronze (14.949)
“I was hoping to perform well. I didn’t really expect a medal. It really felt like a bonus for me,” Yulo stated after making history for himself and the Philippines.
He also revealed how anxious he was heading into contention for a second gold medal, “It’s crazy because last night I couldn’t sleep. I was so hyped because I had won that gold medal the day before.”
The 24-year-old won the men’s floor exercise a day before, securing top spot with a total of 15 points, ahead of Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat who claimed the silver medal.
