There has been a bit of an upset as Holger Rune beat home favourite Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to win the Barcelona Open crown and his first ATP Tour title in two years on Sunday.
The Dane produced a sensational performance to stun home hero and childhood friend 7-6, 6-2 to win the tournament, making Barcelona Open Holger Rune’s first ATP Tour title since the Bavarian Open in 2023 and his biggest since the Paris Masters in 2022.
As a result, Rune will return to the top 10 when the latest ATP rankings are released on Monday, while Carlos Alcaraz will be replaced as world number two by Alexander Zverev.
Elsewhere, Germany’s Zverev beat Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4 in the Final of the Munich Open to claim his first title of the year on his 28th birthday.
